Prescription: Beauty in a Capsule

BEAUTY is in the eye of the beholder, says author Margaret Wolfe Hungerford in her book Molly Bawn published in 1878. That means beauty is relative. To someone, you may look beautiful. To others, not at all.

Fast forward to140 years after— our present 2018. Now, beauty may already be in a capsule, so that you may be beautiful to anyone who looks at you.

But this piece is not just about looking good. It’s more about feeling young.

That’s according to Marco Lattanzi, Italian hunk, Sophie Rankin, British actress and model, and Celine Pialago, stunning spokesperson.

Miss Philippines Earth beauty Celine Pialago now you know as assistant secretary and spokesperson of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), almost always on the television newscasts.

Marco, Sophie, and Celine graced yesterday’s Bulong Pulungan media forum at the Hotel Sofitel to talk about Eslite S-Acetyl Glutathione, a wellness, anti-aging capsule.

Glutathione Grace

Glutathione is an anti-oxidant—meaning it’s a substance that prevents oxidation.  Oxidation means loss of electrons which results in damaging important components in food that the body needs to stay healthy. Glutathione, which is found in plants and animals, prevents the damage.

Now, it was accidentally discovered that large doses of glutathione can lighten the skin. So, products with the glutathione substance are selling like hotcakes in places where people who have dark or brown skin feel they will be more successful in life, ergo happier, if their skin is white. So, glutathione is popular in the Philippines. Could it be because of our colonial mentality? But that’s another story.

The problem with glutathione is once it’s in your digestive tract, it gets broken down, so you get only little portions of the good substance your body needs.

At the Bulong Pulungan yesterday, Marco Lattanzi pointed out there’s a way to prevent the breaking of glutathione in the digestive tract— the latest innovation in the Glutathione formulation. This is the Eslite S-Acetyl Glutathione capsule.

The capsule, Lattanzi said, is a result of what is called the ActivEffect Technology which makes sure that the glutathione you take is protected from whatever damaging effects happening in your digestive tract. So your body absorbs the glutathione in full.

Eslite Effects

Bulong Pulungan may be dealing with national, political issues. But yesterday, wellness and anti-aging were more exciting topics.

Here’s, pardon the pun, enlightening Q and A.:

How is Eslite different from other anti-aging brands?

Marco Lattanzi: Eslite has S-Acetyl, which prevents glutathione from degrading in the digestive tract. S-Acetyl has a protective layer which makes all the glutathione in Eslite reach its destination— the cell.

You feel healthier. Your liver, your skin are healthier. You are more energetic. And you improve your athletic performance.

Where does the substance come from?

Marco: It is extracted from a variety of French Cantaloupe Melon.

So, why not just eat melon?

Marco: You will have to eat tons of melon to enjoy the benefits of a few Eslite capsules.

If you’re taking Eslite, do you still have to apply toner and moisturizer to prevent wrinkles on your face?

Sophie Rankin: Toners and moisturizers are for the outside skin. Eslite is more for the inside— to make your body healthier so you don’t feel old.

Since it has glutathione, does Eslite have skin-whitening effects?

Celine Pialago: Maybe so. But I like my brown skin. I don’t need glutathione to lighten my skin. But I’ve been taking Eslite because I go around a lot so I need an energy booster like Eslite.

How much per bottle?

Ed Cobankiat, president of Edelwell, sponsor: Eslite is known as Emothione which is manufactured in the company’s state-of-the-art plant in Italy. The product costs P1,950 per bottle which has 30 capsules, good for one month.

At what age should you start taking Eslite? Is it still effective when you’re past 60 years old? Do you still hope to look and feel young if you take the capsule after you’re 60 and beyond?

Marco: You take Eslite to boost your energy. That’s why the more you need it when you’re getting older— to delay the aging process.

C!: If symptoms– as in wrinkles– persist, consult your doctor, if not God to whom all He created, including you and me,  are always beautiful.

                   SENATOR CYNTHIA VILLAR:

                  ‘No Nationwide Rice Shortage;

                  Boracay Opens on October 26′

SENATOR Cynthia Villar is hogging the headlines as the hottest issues nowadays are concerns of her committees in the Senate.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, she is right in the middle of the rice problem.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, she has been on top of the rehabilitation of Boracay which is scheduled to re-open in October.

Rice Issue

“There is no rice shortage,” Senator Villar said, repudiating media hype about the scarcity of the nation’s staple food.

At the Bulong Pulungan media forum at the Hotel Sofitel last Tuesday, September 4, Senator Villar said the rice supplies are with the traders.

The perceived shortage has led to the rice price hikes.

The Senator said the price manipulation can be prevented since the Price Act mandates that the government can set price ceilings.

Senator Villar also presented a long-term measure to assure sustained rice production that should make it no longer necessary for the country to import rice.

The solution is mechanization, she said. She pointed out that with modern machines, farmers will naturally have increased harvest. Increased harvest means sustained rice supply, and therefore, ending price manipulation.

Earlier, in another Bulong forum, Senator Villar pointed out that family farms may eventually be extinct because children of family farms are not interested in the industry since the income is not lucrative enough.

“We have to make family farms earn to motivate the children not to leave the farms,” she said.

The solution, she added,  is to teach farmers to mechanize, and how to plant crops other than rice so their income will increase.

Senator Villar warned: “Otherwise, we will have a problem with food security by 2050.”

At the Bulong last Tuesday, Senator Villar said the government has established farm schools to teach farmers how to use modern machines and equipment to greatly improve their harvest.

The government has provided the machines and equipment for farm villages which are being shared by farmers in the village.

With farming becoming easy to do and lucrative as well,  the farmers’ children may then choose to become farmers, too, Senator Villar said.

On her own, Senator Villar has established  900 farm schools all over the country in coordination with the Technological Education and Schools Development Authority (TESDA). Each course takes only about three months.

“You don’t have to take long courses,” she said. “If you are a rice farmer, you just study rice farming. If you’re into coconut, you study better coconut farming, if tilapia, you study tilapia, if galunggong, you study galunggong only.”

As part of her effort to educate farmers or for that matter the public in general  about her advocacies, Senator Villar has published easy-to-read booklets, together with magazine editor Yvette Fernandez, with colorful illustrations by Paul Eric Roca.

Seeds of Life is about farm schools for farmers and their children.

Park of Life presents the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park– 175 hectares of forests and lakes serving as a sanctuary for 82 species of birds, including visiting birds from as far away as Japan, China, and even Siberia.

River of Life is about saving the Las Pinas River from pollution.

The booklets are not only informative. They present stories of Senator Villar’s childhood days growing in her native Las Pinas, and how through the years she has endeavored to save her hometown from degradation.

Better Boracay

As she is also chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Senator Villar has closely monitored the rehabilitation of Boracay.

President Rodrigo Duterte who early this year said Boracay had turned into a “cesspool” ordered that the prime holiday resort be closed temporarily for rehabilitation.

Boracay’s opening was set on October 26.

The schedule will be followed, Senator Villar said at last Tuesday’s Bulong Pulungan.

She said only 30% of the establishments in Boracay are ready to open.

“We wish there would be more,” she added, “but we are going ahead in re-opening Boracay so that at least 30% of those who had to stop working can now go back to work.”
